We believe that we are our own best advocates and that acting on our own behalf fosters independence, dignity and respect, while preventing isolation and depression. PD Active began in late 2007, following an energizing dance class for people with Parkinson’s sponsored by the Mark Morris Dance Group. We obtained 501(c) 3 federally exempt non-profit status in January of 2009.

The Feldenkrais Method®: Neuroplasticity & Working with Parkinson’s Disease

Seminar for Third & Fourth Year Feldenkrais Trainees and Certified Practitioners.

Wed Sept 5, 10am-5pm, San Mateo Marriott, San Francisco Airport, 1770 South Amphlett Blvd, San Mateo, California 94402 USA

One Day Seminar for the Feldenkrais Guild® of North America (FGNA) Educational Conference 2012.

Presented by Ernie Adams

For a person with Parkinson’s Disease the natural flow of perception and movement is disrupted. The intention of a movement often lacks enough rhythmic and organizing structure to be truly functional. I have discovered that including clear rhythmic patterns within the context of a Feldenkrais® lesson can carry the action forward to a more normal completion in time and space. This is particularly useful for walking, rolling, and turning. Exploring tempo, dynamic range, and movement qualities also helps actions become “musically” connected. Working with Feldenkrais this way is fun for the student, facilitates “movement memory”, and develops learning strategies that can transfer into everyday activities.
